🧍 Add Person & Edit Person

The Add Person and Edit Person pages let you create and maintain people who appear on the map. Here you can enter basic details, set a primary location, and manage residences and immigration events tied to each person.

đź’  When to Use These Pages

  • Add Person: Use when someone is missing from the map or family list.
  • Edit Person: Use to correct details, move a pin, or add residences/immigration.

đź’  Basic Information

Both pages include a Basic Information section where you can enter:

  • First, middle, and last name
  • Maiden name or nickname (if applicable)
  • Gender
  • Birth and death dates (if known)

đź’  Primary Location (Map Pin)

The primary location determines where the person’s pin appears on the map. You can:

  • Enter an address, city, state, and country
  • Use a “Verify” or “Geocode” button (if available) to look up coordinates
  • Use a “Pick on Map” option to place the pin manually

After saving, the person’s pin will appear at this location on the Map page.

đź’  Residences

On the Edit Person page, a Residences section may appear. Each residence can include:

  • Address or place name
  • City, state, and country
  • Start and end dates (approximate is fine)
  • Notes about the residence

Residences can be added, edited, or removed. They may also appear as additional markers on the map.

đź’  Immigration Events

If supported, the Edit Person page can also track immigration or major moves. Each event can include:

  • From location
  • To location
  • Date or approximate year
  • Notes about the move

These events can be visualized as paths or lines on the map.

đź’  Saving Changes

  • Click Save or Save Person to apply your changes.
  • After saving, return to the Map page to see updated pins and paths.

đź’  Common Tasks

  • Add a new person from the map: Click “Add Person” on the Map page, fill in details, set a location, and save.
  • Move a person’s pin: Open Edit Person, adjust the address or pick a new location on the map, then save.
  • Add a residence: Open Edit Person, scroll to Residences, click “Add Residence,” fill in details, and save.
  • Add an immigration event: Open Edit Person, scroll to Immigration, add the move, and save.
