1200s — Annandale, Scotland

The Bruce line begins with Robert IV de Brus, Lord of Annandale. This is the earliest documented root of your lineage.

1300s — Central Scotland

Robert the Bruce and his descendants shift the family’s political center toward Perthshire and Stirling.

1400s–1500s — Clackmannan

The Bruces of Clackmannan establish a stable Lowland branch that remains for nearly 200 years.

1600s — Ulster, Northern Ireland

Scottish Presbyterians, including the Leckie/Lakey ancestors, migrate to Ulster during the Plantation period.

Early 1700s — Pennsylvania

Scots‑Irish ancestors arrive in the American colonies, beginning the family’s presence in North America.

Mid‑1700s — Virginia Frontier

The family moves down the Great Wagon Road into the Virginia frontier, seeking land and opportunity.

Late 1700s — North Carolina

The Leakey/Lakey family settles in the Rowan/Iredell region, part of a large Scots‑Irish community.

Early 1800s — Indiana

Westward migration continues as the family moves into Indiana, where Isaac R. R. Leakey is born.

Late 1800s — Missouri

Sarah Edith Leakey marries Clay Dean Burris in Barry County, Missouri — the beginning of your Missouri roots.

1880 — Waldensian Migration to Missouri

Bartolomeo (Bartram) Stringat arrives from the Waldensian valleys and settles in Barry County, living with cousin Charley Rouet.

1900s–Present — Missouri

The Stringer, Burris, Leakey, and Waldensian lines converge in Missouri, leading to the present‑day family.
